I am James Smith, a leadership consultant focusing on learning, strategy and innovation for organisations with social and environmental purpose.
I was one of the pioneers of the social entrepreneurship movement in the UK in the 1990s, working closely with Michael Young, Lord Young of Dartington, and co-founding two of its key institutions, the School for Social Entrepreneurs (SSE) and Unltd: the Foundation for Social Entrepreneurs.
I now work primarily with start-ups, new projects and organisations that are looking to refocus, to which I bring strong strategic vision and experience of organisational growth and development. As well as working one-to-one with individual leaders, I love to engage others through interactive seminars and workshops, whether that’s a senior team with strategic decisions to make, a peer learning network, or a collaborative project. I have worked across many social and environmental fields in the UK since 1993 and internationally since 2004.
I live in south west France and south west England. I have a Law degree from Cambridge University.
